I confess, this question didn't even occur to me for a long time, as I switched to reusable pads primarily to protect the environment and for my own health.
Yet, after 5 years of use, I realized that I not only save our Earth from tons of waste, but also my wallet from unnecessary expenses!
And how did I come to this conclusion? Let me show you!
For our example, let's take an average woman who menstruates for 5 days, with a normal cycle. With a very optimistic approach, we can say that she uses approximately 20-25 disposable tampons or pads per cycle.
There are usually 13-14 cycles in a year, which means approximately 260-350 disposable pads per year!
I looked up how much a pack costs these days, because I haven't had to buy disposable pads for a long time. I found many brands with different prices, so I suggest we take an average price, which in this case is about 100 HUF/pad.
Since you'll need 260-350 of these per year, we can multiply this by 100 to find out that your annual menstrual cost is roughly between 26,000 and 35,000 HUF.
(You could easily add other costs to this, such as those you have to spend at doctors or pharmacies due to infections caused by plastic pads. But for simplicity's sake, let's disregard that for now.)
Imagine, with this money, you can buy yourself an 8-12 piece reusable pad set!
And since reusable pads last about 5 years, this means that:
for the next 4 years YOU WON'T HAVE TO SPEND MONEY ON YOUR PERIOD!!!
If we continue with the average example, you can see that you save yourself 4 years' worth of costs!
This amount is approximately 104,000-140,000 HUF!
